Advanced Cloud-Based Simulation From Simulia
SIMULIA Structural Performance Engineer and SIMULIA Structural Mechanics Engineer leverage the proven Abaqus solver to help you tackle complex nonlinear structural problems efficiently.
These tools are part of the 3DEXPERIENCE cloud platform, allowing simulations to run in the cloud. This gives you access to more processing cores for faster results, while also freeing up your local machines for other design or simulation work, keeping you productive.

Frequently Asked Questions
You choose which hardware is used. Cloud solving is a key benefit of SIMULIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and allows you to perform complex analysis without the need to own expensive computer hardware. However, you can use your own computer to solve simulations locally if you prefer.
Simulation models and results are securely stored on your private cloud tenant.
Yes. You’ll upload your SOLIDWORKS models to the cloud to set up and solve your simulations. The cloud copy is linked to your local file, so you can easily update your simulation with any changes to your SOLIDWORKS model, enabling rapid iteration.
These are two different methods for solving FEA problems. The implicit solution technology is ideal for solving static and low-speed dynamic events, such as sealing pressure in a gasket joint or crack propagation in a composite airplane fuselage. The explicit solution technology available in Structural Mechanics Engineer is well-suited for high-speed dynamic events, such as consumer electronics drop testing, automotive crashes, and ballistic impact.
It can be challenging and tedious to predict and define all the possible contacting surfaces in a simulation. The Abaqus solver uses “general contact” to automatically detect contact between different bodies, dramatically reducing missed contact definitions and time required to define contact in complex assemblies.
SIMULIA Structural Performance Engineer and SIMULIA Structural Mechanics Engineer use the same proven solver technology as the desktop version of Abaqus, but feature a modern user interface and new workflows designed specifically for the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is sold in modules called roles. Each role is for a specific task and a role can contain multiple applications. Every role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is tied to a specific user. Everyone connecting to the platform will need to be assigned their unique set of roles.
There are two roles required to be connected to and to run additional programs on 3DEXPERIENCE. These foundation roles are called Collaborative Business Innovator and Collaborative Industry Innovator. These give you the ability to connect from any smart device from anywhere in the world. From any browser, you can view 3D content, manage revisions, lifecycles, and cloud data. Additional roles can be purchased for additional capabilities, such as Structural Performance Engineer, which adds simulation functionality.
We are here to assess your situation and get you exactly what you need without buying more than you require. Typically, not all roles are required for every user. For instance, let’s say you have three people, two SOLIDWORKS engineers and the engineering manager, but only one engineer needs simulation capabilities. In that case everyone would need the foundation roles, however, the manager would not require anything additional and only one 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA role would be needed.
